Chinese Quad 405 boards

On Ebay Chinese boards for the Quad 405 are for sale.

We ordered some to try them out.

They are based on the first version of the 405 board with some modifications in the in- and output connectors.

They will not fit the original aluminium heatsink-profile and they are 10mm longer and 5mm larger than the original board so they won't fit in a 405 but they may be interesting for DIY-projects in another chassis.

They come without schematic diagram or documentation.

I bought a 404-2 with a faulty board even though it had been recently completely updated by Quad (as they so succinctly say 'all new comports fitted'). With it came a pair of clone boards (metal transistor type) The Quad was sent back for repair while I knocked up a power supply for the clones. To cut a long story short I have now had three 'serious' hifi bods listen to the two amps and each one in a blind test said that they preferred the clone! I've looked on eBay and noticed that my clones are around £45 whereas many others are half that price.
